Counselling is an umbrella terms that covers a range of talking therapies. It is delivered by trained practitioners who work with people over a short or long time to help them bring about effective change or enhance their wellbeing.
I work as an integrative counsellor which means I draw on my different training and experience to find, with you, the approach best suited to you and your current difficulties. The main three approaches I draw upon are;
Person-centred; which means I work to develop a trusting relationship with you. I listen to you carefully, with utmost respect, but without judgment. I work with you to help you find the solutions that best suit you.
Psychodynamic; which means I recognise the big influence our past experiences can have on us. You may find it helpful to reflect on these, if they are relevant to your current difficulties and we can make sense of them together.
Cognitive Behavioural; which means I help you to consider how you think about a situation and how this affects the way you act. Also how our actions can affect how we think and feel. We would work together to change either how you behave, or how you think, or both.
